Welcome to Fairhaven Bed and Breakfast, which sits high above Loch Glencoul, mid-way between Ullapool and Durness, on the main road along the coast of the North West Highlands. It is an ideal place to stop and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that this unspoilt location has to offer, particularly for those driving or cycling the North Coast 500 (NC500). Fairhaven also sits within the North West Highland Geopark and is near some of the most-climbed, iconic mountains in Sutherland, so it is a great base for those interested in a wide range of outdoor activities.
Fairhaven is open between Easter and October, though occasionally open outwith those months, on request.
There are two rooms available to book: one twin and one double (with King Size bed). The rooms share a shower room with toilet. Each room has tea-making facilities and all guests have access to the lounge, which has a television and where breakfast is served. The dining table is set at the window, which has a panoramic view over the Loch Glencoul. Continental breakfast is included in the price. Due to the mountainous character of the area, only limited Wifi is available, but certainly enough to check e-mails and for short trips onto the internet. We are sorry, but we do not allow pets in the house.
Fairhaven is owned and run by Peter and his wife Pauline who is a local Postie and who sets off on her rounds at 9.00am. So, to make sure that she meets her work commitments, all guests have to leave by 9.00am also.
For those travelling by bike or on foot, or those who are spending their days out in the wilds, there is secure storage for bikes and fishing rods and for hanging outdoor gear up to dry. Pauline will help make sure that your shoes and boots get dried off before you set off on the next day’s adventure. There is an open fire in the lounge for those evenings when the weather is cool, but if the evening is fine, you can just sit on the bench outside and enjoy the evening sun, or take a 15 minute walk along to the award-winning Kylesku Hotel, where you can enjoy a drink and some excellent seafood. .
Bookings are taken by telephone (01971 502428 or 07787711837) or by e-mail. No deposit is taken, but payment in cash is required upon on arrival.
Fairhaven is within easy walking distance of the Kylesku Hotel, which offers a superb bar and meals and the Rock Stop Café, the centre for the North West Highlands Geopark, where you will find displays, information and café facilities.
